Caseinolytic protease (Clp) is a major protease system in plant cells and functions to remove mis-folded, damaged, short-lived regulatory, and otherwise unneeded proteins in plastids to maintain protein homeostasis. CLPP3 is one of several nuclear-encoded ClpPs (caseinolytic protease).
